The Meaning of Mantras

Mantras can help us face challenges with greater clarity.

I have found mantras to be very beneficial for people who are terminally ill.

Talking about death and dying is uncomfortable for most people.

We will all inevitably die, yet people are rarely ready to talk about it! That is because most don’t understand that we transform from this life into an energy source and go home. As a former nursing home CNA and a hospital Nurse tech, I have been blessed to have been in the presence of several people passing on, before I was a Reiki master. I still knew, to have the compassion and the know-how to make sure that they were in the right mindset at the end of their life, was necessary. I feel blessed to have been there; it was an honor for me to hold their hands and pray with them, giving comfort.

A mantra can help create a space where safety and love can replace the negative energies that manifest from fear.

Too many people leave this world in fear and anger, I have witnessed fear in people’s eyes as they’ve passed, and my heart went out to them.

“I was shot at the age of fifteen, the bullet went into my back and out my shoulder. I didn’t know if I was going to make it. It was a traumatic situation for me. I wasn’t ready! I never knew what to do when I was in a near-death situation, so I was in fear.”

"Rama" is a mantra with origins in Sanskrit that refers to one of Lord Vishnu's reincarnations, when Gandhi was shot and dying, he repeated the word "Rama," he was chanting to God!

Practice Your Mantra Anywhere or Anytime You Need

A mantra is often a set of deeply spiritual words that you repeat or chant over and over again.

Usually short, and simple, all religions have a mantra.

  • In western Christian tradition: “Jesus” (to ask Jesus for assistance and to be more like him.
  • In Hindu Christian tradition: “Yesu Christu,” or “OM Yesu Christu.”
  • In Catholic Christian tradition: “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us” (or Lord Jesus Christ”).
Check In and Check Out! A mantra can help you quickly step out of stress.
Saying a chosen mantra will bring you to your higher self.

If you don’t have a spiritual practice, going to a TM teacher could be beneficial. They can give you a personal mantra, one that matches your life.

Using a mantra in nature helps you connect more deeply to your innate power within.
For me, I use a few different mantras for different times in my life.

I first started with, “Heal me, guide me, so I can be of greater service to other’s” or, “Om namah Shivaya” which means “I honor the Divine within”

You can also simply start with “OM” or Aum,” this brings in the high vibrational energy. “OM” symbolizes the nature of God beyond all names and realities. “Aum” means I understand all states of awareness, the “A” stands for waking state, the “U” stands for dreaming, and the “M” stands for deep sleep.

What is Mantra?

Yogi Bhajan states:

What is a mantra? Mantra is two words: Man, and tra. Man means mind. Tra means the heat of life. Ra means sun. So, mantra is a powerful combination of words which, if recited, takes the vibratory effect of each of your molecules into the Infinity of the Cosmos. That is called ‘Mantra.’

As a medium I use my gifts to heal and guide others to their life’s purpose.
